چکیده

This study describes the initial phases of wing morphogenesis of Megoura viciae Buckton (Homoptera Aphididae). We evaluated the development of wing buds in males (winged) and parthenogenetic females (presumed to become wingless) of M. viciae from birth to 4 instar. Wing bud epithelium in males is initially simple, becoming bistratified and then progressing to stratify. Mitotic activity is more intense in the proximal region of bud, and its behaviour seems to be synchronous. In parthenogenetic females, from birth to 1 instar, the buds resemble those of males at the same stages, but subsequently the epithelium returns to the simple state, and from the 3 instar stage, it cannot be distinguished from the adjacent epithelium. This study moreover defines distinctive wing bud features that can be used to identify these buds during development in other aphid species.

Occurrence of nitric oxide synthase in Megoura viciae Buckton (Homoptera, Aphididae): an histochemical and immunohistochemical localisation.

Nitric oxide (NO) is known to be involved in many physiological reactions of insects. We analysed NOS localisation in aphids of the species Megoura viciae by means of histochemical reaction for the NADPH-diaphorase activity and immunohistochemical methods for uNOS, nNOS and iNOS. The obtained data provided a complex and peculiar pattern of NOS distribution in cells and tissue of M. viciae. The ...

The development of pharyngeal taste buds in Hucho taimen (Pallas, 1773) larvae

This study aims to investigate the relationship between the development of pharyngeal taste buds (TBs) and first feeding of Hucho taimen. Larvae were fed with live food (water flea and tubifex) for 8 weeks. TBs of larval pharynx were histologically examined using light microscopy during the rearing experiment. The results showed that the first few TBs primordia were visible within the pharynx 2...

Evaluation of Morphological and Pomological Diversity of 62 Almond Cultivars and Superior Genotypes in Iran

Identification and selection of promising genotypes of fruit tree are primary steps in breeding programs. The economic importance of almond production in the world has stimulated numerous studies related to breeding, quantitative and qualitative traits, the increase of yield and decrease production costs. In this study, morphological and pomological characteristics of 60 cultivar and superior g...

Retinoic acid induces a pattern of digits in anterior half wing buds that lack the zone of polarizing activity.

Wing buds whose posterior half is excised, develop into wings lacking distal structures. However, such experimentally generated preaxial half wing buds can be rescued by implanting a retinoic-acid-releasing bead at their anterior margin. The polarity of the pattern that originates from preaxial half wing buds is reversed. For example, instead of a 234 digit pattern typical for normal wings, the...

Mechanisms for stable coexistence in an insect community.

In this paper, we formulate a three-species ecological community model consisting of two aphid species (Acyrthosiphon pisum and Megoura viciae) and a specialist parasitoid (Aphidius ervi) that attacks only one of the aphids (A pisum). The model incorporates both density-mediated and trait-mediated host-parasitoid interactions. Our analysis shows that the model possesses much richer and more rea...
